Waterproof Holiday

Summer, at last, and not a day too soon! I don’t know about you, but after a gloomy winter and rainy spring I’m heading off somewhere warm on a long holiday and I’m taking my camera with me. The best equipment to invest in this summer holiday, especially if you’re headed somewhere seaside, are waterproof digital cameras. When I shop for a camera I usually check out my favourite brands, but lately I’ve been seeing some tough competition for my much trusted Canon and Kodak brand cameras and some surprising features.

Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-TX10 has a unique feature called a 3D sweep panorama, which means you can capture the entire landscape with one sweep of the camera Photoshop-free. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 tries to capture more of the sceneries with its wide-angle zoom and its design looks like it’s built for rough handling and won’t fall apart on the first drop. The Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 also looks durable and even has tough in its name, but it boasts a 5x wide-angle zoom. The Canon PowerShot D10 separates itself by its design. Where the others were thin and rectangular in shape, the PowerShot looks more like a bubble. It’s not only waterproof, but it can also survive a depth just over 10 meters, perfect for any divers out there. But if you’re more likely to take videos than still photos, you should check out Kodak’s PlaySport HD video camera, called a “pocket” camera for a reason. It’s designed to look more like a cell phone than a camcorder, so those who are used to the grip of an iPhone will easily adapt to its 1080p HD quality.

Whatever digital camera ends up being right for you and your summer memories make sure to use it often because the summer will be over before you know it.
